Luna L98

It started out as an experimental film in the late 90′s, which turned into a dream, which turned into reality. Luna was a lone orca I encountered in my films, in my dreams and in reality. My Luna work is now incorporated into the feature film The Whale.

We can first appreciate my earlier film Sea of Souls (see film page) to experience an artistic exploration of abstract worlds later to manifest into dreams, which later came true. While following the artists path, I investigated the dream come true once I recognized it, and through that did the following work starting in 2003.

I arrived to investigate and document what I saw and encountered. On Luna’s behalf I created awareness of his predicament utilizing videos and photos I took, a website I built, created a t shirt and logo, a blog I facilitate, and a video I produced. Luna Love is my personal story.

One of my video clips of Luna and dog went viral on the internet and was aired on Ellen and Animal Planet.

“Maria Chantelle’s passion for the work she creates shows through in everything she does. We met at a chance meeting in 2003 when she was involved with monitoring a young orphaned orca. That is when the truest sense of “Orcagirl” blossomed. Her determination and grit helped to establish a broader appreciation for marine mammals in general with a public who may have never known otherwise” –  Kathy Birkett
